To understand Christianity, it is necessary to understand who Saul was and what his career on earth consisted of. Aside from Jesus Christ, Saul has been the most important figure in the history of religion, and has influenced every believer to this day. His career was more a calling, or was considered to be more of a life style because it was his passion and it was what he loved doing. Jesus was not the founder of Christianity as we know it today. Most of the New Testament doesnt even concern the historical Jesus while the main influence is the Apostle Paul and through the church he founded at Ephesus a Greek convert named John. Saul never met Jesus in the flesh, he only claimed some strange vision and proceeded to paganism the teachings†¦show more content†¦When Saul was in his mid-twenties he went home to Tarsus. Saul left Jerusalem with the knowledge and experiences he learned from Gamaliels school. Saul was raised and educated in the Jewish faith and was a greatly intell igent man who lived to destroy the spread if the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He received many letters from the high priest authorizing him as an agent of the high priests to oppress the spread of the Gospel by arresting and prosecuting every believer of Jesus Christ. On a journey from Jerusalem, as he walks towards Damascus (Acts 22), ready to take as prisoner any who persist in this new sect, a voice from heaven demands: Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? Who are you, Lord? he asks. I am Jesus, and you are persecuting me. Get up...and you will be told what you have to do. . The magnitude of the light was so intense that Saul became blind. Deeply shaken, Saul sets out to discover himself and his identity. He goes to Ananias, as God directs him to do. Ananias asks God if he has perhaps not make a mistake: Lord, this man has done much harm to your saints in Jerusalem and also here.... But the Lord replies that Saul is the instrument I have chosen to bring my name before pagans and pa gan kings and before the people of Israel (cf. Acts 9:4-16; 22:3-21; 26:9-18).
